Frequently Asked Questions
Coffee and Cats – How does that work?
The coffee shop and the cat lounge are essentially two separate entities under the same roof. The coffee shop serves coffee, tea, and food items. Adoptable cats are in the cat lounge area, which is separated by a wall with windows. During your visit, you can choose to enjoy the coffee shop only, the cat lounge only, or both! You are welcome to enjoy your beverage in the company of the adorable felines in the cat lounge.
Do I need a reservation?
Reservations are highly recommended but not necessary. Reservations start at the beginning of each hour with 8 spots available (6 online and 2 walk-ins). If you reserve online you are assured of the day and time that you desire. If the online spots have not been taken, those spots will be open to walk-in customers. You can make your reservation here.
How do I make a reservation?
Click here to make your reservation. Use the quantity tab if you want to reserve for more than one person. Children 5 and under are free.
Why do you charge a fee for the cat lounge?
All of the cats in the cat lounge are adoptable from the Animal Rescue League of Iowa (ARL). Our hope and goal is to provide the cats with their forever home. Coffee Cats is responsible for housing and caring for the cats while they are with us and there are costs associated with this. The $10 fee purr person purr hour helps us tend to their needs.
Can I bring my cat?
We know you love your cat, however, the cat lounge is only for the ARL cats. If you have a cat that you would like to surrender you can contact the ARL at 515-262-9503 or bring the cat to the main office at 5452 NE 22nd Street, Des Moines.

Please read and explain the cat lounge rules to the children before entering the cat lounge. Children 5 and under can enter for free.
What if I get bit or scratched?
You are choosing to enter a room full of cats who will be cats, therefore, if you are bit or scratched we are not liable for any cat-related injuries that may occur. If you are injured please let a staff person know immediately. They will provide you with directions to a bathroom and a bandage.
What if I want to adopt a cat?
